Debating 101 with The Teachers Collective – 10 years and above

Join us to learn the basics of Debating.  Building a strong argument, backing it up with evidence, ensuring that one identifies and avoids logical fallacies AND rebuts an opponent’s arguments with confidence – these are critical skills for everyone.  If you are looking at any kind of debating or Model UN, these are skills that not only have to be learned but also internalized enough that one can think on their feet to punch back as needed.

Debating isn’t about loud voices. It is about solid arguments.  An argument is a position one takes, not a fight…students learn to shift their thinking and get focused on the issue.  They learn that Ad Hominem insults get them nowhere quick.  They learn what Ad Hominem insults are and how to point them out courteously.

Give your child the gift of logic and rational thinking. Join them for the sessions, if you like.  We will teach you to dissect your thinking and justify your opinions well, first to yourself.  Every session of debating we have taught and we have worked with over 1,000 students in the past three years, something has shifted for almost everyone – small shifts until they become noticeably more confident.
