In Love with Shakespeare

Did you study Shakespeare in school?  I did.  The Merchant of Venice – something ICSE students in India are still studying today.

Did you enjoy it? I did.  I was fortunate to have a teacher who was passionate about the Bard and bounced with energy in her classes.

Many students don’t know why they study Shakespeare.  Imagine a man with little education in the late 1500s and early 1600 toiling in the light of oil lamps, writing out phrases that you use today.  Imagine then that there weren’t enough words for him to express his ideas and an estimated 1,700 out of the roughly 18,000 words used in his plays were brand new.  We come a ‘full circle’ now, see a ‘sorry sight’, thanks to Shakespeare.
