The Communication Series: Writing a Research Paper
March 2021
Categories: Uncategorized
POSTPONED TO MAY 17th, 18th and 19th.
Communicating through writing is a critical skill: one that is rigourously assessed in exams, assignments, speeches and letters among other forms. As children grow older, research papers enter the fray. Writing a good research paper is a slightly more specialized skill. We explicitly teach the various steps to writing a research paper: researching from credible sources, finding contrasting points of view, building paragraphs with a main idea supported by details and evidence, editing the paper to maximize its impact and learning to cite one’s sources in internationally required ways of presentation.
As students apply to colleges or start college courses, these skills help them differentiate themselves in how they communicate. We follow hands-on learning in small batch sizes. Students will choose their own topics and refine their positions on the basis of their research. At the end of the workshop, students who complete all assignments will have a paper that is publishable. As always, output is based on how much students practise what is taught and how much they internalize individual and group feedback provided to them.
Looking forward to working with our students!
