Shakespeare Appreciation – The Merchant of Venice
January 2019The Teachers Collective is thrilled to present the session that started it all and a man who pushed us to do more – Shakespeare.
Shakespeare can be daunting to read in the original and yet, the beauty of his work, the plot lines, the relevance of someone who lived and died in 1600s, one of the few who died on his birthday (trivia alert!), all this means his works are still read and taught in today’s times.

“I am not a math person”
April 2018One of the many myths we face as teachers of math is the existence of a ‘math person’! In truth, there is no math person or language person, no concept of creative types not being scientific in their thinking. We don’t have the luxury of eschewing any kind of skill in general and then, specifically not in the scenario we are staring at: trying to prepare kids for a career when no one is quite sure of which direction their own careers are going…which will remain standing when the AI and technology storms rage.

Study Skills – a 5 part workshop
March 2018The Teachers Collective is excited to present a 5 day workshop in April. Our approach continues to be hands-on, activities based skill building on those areas that are required for academics and learning of all kinds but rarely taught explicitly.
The plan is:
Day 1 – Study Skills (to address all textual content based learning)
Day 2 – Visual Note Making/Taking
Day 3 – How to Approach ANY math problem (using structured problem solving)
Day 4 – Writing for Academics – Part 1
Day 5 – Writing for Academics – Part 2
Location: Untitled Arts in J P Nagar
Timing: 10:00 am – 1:00 pm
Dates: April 16th – April 20th
Age: 11 – 16 years

The Study Skills Series
January 2018The Teachers Collective completed another successful series of 2 workshops for teenagers on how to study. We taught internationally proven study techniques that will help students understand and learn better, taking memorization out of the picture.
Modern syllabi and job skills prize understanding and older methods that rely primarily on rote memorization are (thankfully) being revised.
